Who inspires you?
Today is International Women’s Day! The theme this year is Each for Equal. Today we’re focused on how we can forge a gender equal world. But also, today is a day to celebrate women’s achievements.
We all go through different seasons of life, and like many others, I’ve been inspired by multiple people through every season. As a child growing up, I’ve always looked up to my parent’s hard work and passion for every job they’ve done. When asked how I got into this business, it’s because my parents have inspired me. Not only by remodeling homes and letting me be a part of it, but I’ve seen the life they’ve built for us and that motivates me to someday do the same for my children. When I went to my parents with this idea to open the store, they stood behind me and pushed me to make it happen.
Like my parents, I’ve had a lot of support from my grandparents and aunt and uncle. Every time I’d make it home, they’d ask “how’s the store coming”, which would push me to keep working hard so that I could make this dream a reality.

There’s a lot that comes with opening a boutique, as you can imagine. Some expected and planned, others not so much; but you live, and you learn. This year has been full of “you live, and you learn” moments. Luckily, I’ve been able to meet and work with so many other boutique owners. From an outsider’s point of view, you must think we’re all just competing against one another, when in reality, we’re all working together to create a great shopping experience for everyone.
Every day I get the chance to meet new creatives around Sioux Falls and it’s amazing to see everyone’s support for each other. When I initially wanted to open the boutique, I knew I’d have my family’s support, but I had no idea I would have so much support from other boutique owners. All of the shop owners have really inspired me and have kept me motivated through these last couple of months.
To say who inspires me? There are many people who’ve inspired me and so many people that I look up to. From my family, teachers, bosses, friends – I have so many people to thank for helping me accomplish and achieve so much through every season of life, especially opening Layered Elements, my biggest achievement yet. Though the doors are open, there’s still a lot of work to do and still so much I hope to achieve as an entrepreneur.
